Meet the Quinns

Dev's parents had sent a car to pick up Tom and Dev from the airport. Usually, Dev would feel annoyed that they didn't trust him to make it to the house in Malibu on his own, but this time he was looking forward to relaxing in the back with his boyfriend and unwinding from the flight from Boston. While on the plane, he'd made sure to tell Tom everything he could think of about his folks. He'd shared that both of his parents were born into money yet didn't seem to share the same sense of entitlement that most of their friends did. That didn't mean that they didn't enjoy their money, of course. They had the houses and the cars and all of the trappings of wealth, but the difference, Dev cheekily told Tom, was that they were kind to their staff and treated them like human beings. Sara and Jackson Quinn had also been married for twenty-five years and were the only couple among their friends who had never been divorced. That was more than enough to set them apart from the rest of the company they kept.

Dev had then explained how his family had come into its money (though he did it quickly because, frankly, it embarrassed him to be a trust fund baby). Dev's great-grandfather had been wise enough to buy up a tremendous amount of property in the Los Angeles area and through savvy development decisions had secured his family's wealth for generations to come. Sara's family held the patent for a simple household item that had brought in millions for them and would continue to do so for a great while longer, as well. Dev had told Tom that the only reason he was a poor student now was because he had dropped out of school and been determined to have some freedom and struggle with life a little before taking control of his trust. The day that happened, he and Tom would never want for anything. It just happened that his parents were under the impression that he was rejecting both them and their money and constantly fretted about their son's decision to "go rogue." On the plane, Dev had asked Tom not to let on about his plans to go back into the family fold once he was ready.

Dev looked over at his lover and smiled as the car headed out of the airport. "Almost time to meet Sara and Jack," he said, taking Tom's hand in his own. "Too late to back out now, unless you don't mind jumping out of a moving vehicle."

Dev let out a whimpering cry, followed by a stream of desperate words begging his lover to let him come. He was sure the driver would be able to hear it and that made it even hotter for him.

Dev giggled softly and kissed Tom's ear. "We should straighten up and then you can tell me just how jealous you are of my past lovers."

Dev looked into Tom's eyes and saw the love and anger there. Kissing him again, he gently pushed him back. "Let me get dressed," he said softly. He needed to find the best way to tell Tom that the man he wanted to pound into the ground was probably going to show up during this visit.

Not sure what the uncertainty in Dev's eyes was about, Tom cupped his chin in own hand. "What is it, sweetheart?"

Dev swallowed, a little nervous and not liking the sensation at all. He wouldn't care about telling anyone else something that could upset them, but this was his Tom, and he didn't want to say something he knew could be upsetting to him.

He finally took a deep breath and looked Tom in the eye. "He's going to be there. That man. His name is Dean and he's still friends with my father. My parents have probably told him I'm coming into town and will have invited him over since he's their neighbor out there."

Tom sat back and took a deep breath. He wanted nothing more than to out the bastard for what he did to the child Dev had been, for the innocence he'd stolen from his lover, but he was sure Dev would only be hurt more by having his parents told by their son's lover that he had been molested and they never even suspected it "I'll...I'll deal with it."

Dev wanted to take Tom in his arms and tell him that it was going to be all right and he was sorry that Tom would be uncomfortable, but he felt too ashamed in that moment to do anything but reach for his clothes and quickly get dressed.

After getting dressed quickly, Tom pulled Dev onto the seat beside him. "It'll alright, sweetheart, I promise." He kissed the younger man gently. "I'll just pretend I know nothing about the bastard."

Dev leaned against him. He wasn't used to feeling guilty and that's definitely what this was. Guilt and discomfort.

"I should never have told you about him," he finally said. "Then I wouldn't have to worry about you feeling upset that you're going to meet him."

"Sweetheart, it would upset me more to know you held something as important as that back from me." He answered honestly, holding Dev close. "I can keep my feelings about him buried if I have to and trust me no one but you will ever know that I want to choke the life out of him for what he did."

Dev put his arm around Tom's waist and held onto him. "I love you," he said. He wasn't going to try and convince Tom that he didn't need to feel that way. It was kind of nice to have someone wanting to look out for him.

With a sigh, he let go and took a look out outside. "We're almost there," he said, then put down the privacy shield. "Thanks for the extra time, driver," he said with a small grin. "I'll make sure my folks give you a huge tip."

"Thank you, sir," the driver said, the smile evident in his voice.

Tom couldn't help but blush at what he thought might be a knowing twinkle in the man's eyes and he turned to look out the window. "God." He exclaimed at the sight of the Pacific Ocean caught in glimpses between the houses. "It's so...blue." The Bay back in Boston and the Atlantic beyond it were a steely blue gray with hints of green, but this ocean was the most amazing shade of blue almost the color of a bright summer sky.

"It's gorgeous out here," Dev said, nodding his head. "I'll have to get you into a wet suit and take you surfing. Mom and Dad have a private beach, so I can have my way with you once we're all surfed out."
