"Sweet liar." Tom leaned over and kissed him. "No one looks better than you."

Dev shook his head. "You're not sitting where I am, mister," he said softly.

"Is this when we should have the talk about who is in charge in this marriage?" Tom teased.

Dev laughed at that. "I thought I was in charge."

Tom laughed and kissed Dev. "You can be in charge all you want, sweetheart."

Dev hugged him. "That's why I love you. You know how to cater to the brat in me."

"I'd do anything for my wild child." Tom smiled and held Dev against him. "So, how mad are your parents going to be that we ran off and got married without letting them know?"

"They'll be really pissed," Dev said, laughing. "But not as pissed as Sadie's going to be when she finds out she missed seeing her brother getting hitched." He smiled and snuggled against Tom. "You do realize that Mom will insist we have a second ceremony for the family and so she can invite all her friends, right?"

Tom groaned and grinned at the same time. "Oh Lord, my mother's going to do the same, so that means we get to this three times. I guess after that we really will be stuck with each other."

Dev giggled. "As if we get to get twice as many presents, then I'm all for it."

A door opened and a young woman came out. "Dev Quinn and Tom Ryan?" she asked, though it was clear who the couple was in question.

"That's us," Dev said, grabbing Tom's hand as he stood up.

"Greedy boy." Tom gave Dev's hand a squeeze as he stood and leaned over to kiss him. "Just had to have one last kiss from my boyfriend before he becomes my husband." He whispered.

Dev smiled and gave Tom another kiss. "This is your last chance to back out," he whispered.

"No way." Tom mock leered. "I'm finally getting you in my clutches permanently."

Dev giggled. "Then let's do this." He looked at the woman he assumed was the marriage commissioner and nodded. Dev held Tom's hand tightly as she led the four of them back to her office.

Tom leaned over and whispered. "I love you my beautiful boy and I promise to make you happy for the rest of our lives."

Dev smiled brightly, looking at Tom as if he couldn't believe this was going to happen. How in the world a decent, good, loving man had ever seen fit to look past all of his flaws was still a mystery to Dev, but he knew that he was going to put everything he had into making this marriage work.

"All right, are these your witnesses?" the commissioner asked, smiling at the other couple.

"Yeah, we just met them today. Is that okay?"

The commissioner nodded. "That isn't a problem. Now, first I have to ask if you're both here of your own free will and if you know of any lawful impediment to thi marriage?"

Tom smiled, his eyes on Dev rather than anyone else in the room. "I'm definitely here of my own free will and I don't know of any reason we can't get married."

"Same here," Dev said, looking at Tom and feeling like a school boy who was about to get away with something devilish.

"Very good. Now, do you have the marriage license?"

Dev reached into his jacket pocket. "Yup. All legal and everything," he said with a nervous laugh as he handed it to her."

The woman gave Dev an indulgent smile as she took the license. "Then shall we get started?"

Tom squeezed Dev's hand again, feeling his stomach filpflop at the thought that in a few moments they would finally be married, something he thought Dev would avoid like the plague

Dev leaned against Tom. He was starting to feel a little lightheaded because he had never felt this excited in his life.

"Can we, um, say our own vows?" he asked.

Tom wrapped an arm around Dev as the woman smiled. "We usually don't take the time, but there's no one else waiting so I suppose we can bend the rules a little."

Tom smiled at the commissioner. "Thank you."

Dev listened as the commissioner started the ceremony, holding both of Tom's hands in his and looking at him with a smile that he was sure was permanently affixed to his face. When it was time for the vows, he took a deep breath and just said what was in his heart.

"Tom, meeting you and becoming friends with you was the best thing that ever happened to me because you made me want to be a better person. Then we fell in love and that was the best thing because you showed me what real love was really all about. And you're a really great kisser." He giggled softly. "Now, here we are. Somehow I've convinced you to spend the rest of your life with me, and I promise you with all the love I have in my heart this very moment, that I am going to make sure you never regret it. I love you."

Tom could almost feel his heart literally swelling it was so full at this moment. With a deep breath, he looked at Dev and didn't even have to try and gather his thoughts.

"Dev, when I met you, I doubted I could ever love again, but first you tempted me out of my self imposed exile and back into life, then you opened your heart and showed me the things you tried so hard to hide from everyone. Thank you for trusting me with who you really are and with your heart and your hand. I promise I will never let go of either one as long as I live and that I will work with you every day on building a life together. You've been my shelter through a pain I was sure would kill me, let me be your shelter as well, sweetheart from whatever life throws at us. I love you, my beautiful wild child, and I never want you to change."

Tears welled up in Dev's eyes, and he barely heard the commissioner ask if they had rings they would like to exchange.

"Oh, yes," he said quickly, reaching into his pocket for the one he wanted to give to Tom. It was a little pink plastic ring with a smiley face on it. "We didn't have time to get to the jeweler," he explained to the commissioner before taking Tom's hand and slipping the ring onto his finger with a grin.

They had picked out the rings separately as some sort silly surprise and Tom had to grin when he pulled out the same ring Dev had given him except in a blue that was almost the same shade as his lover's eyes. "Perfect." He said, so ready for the pronouncement so he could kiss his husband.
